Dialogue

Quest Offering

You say, "Hail, Grom Vermach."

"I hear you may be looking for work," Grom says between drinks. "I know the man who has trained you. You see, I need someone who is a little less brawn, and a little more brain."

"There have been two murders here in the city. They were relatively prominent people and the murders don't seem to make sense. I need you to look into the matter. Speak to Eila Romgrid first, she's the wife of one of the victims. Then see Friosh Karn for more information, he is a witness to the other."

Eila Romgrid

  • "Eila Romgrid," you say. "May I speak to you for a moment?"
  • "I don't really feel like speaking to anyone right now," she says, coldly.
  • "I understand this is a difficult time," you say, "but if you could spare a moment, I would be greatly appreciative."
  • "I don't know what you want to know, I'm sure," she says.
  • You smile wanly and say, "I doubt that. I would like to know just what you saw and heard."
  • Eila looks up at you, her eyes red. "The man kicked down our door and plunged his sword in my husband."
  • You look at your feet for a moment. "Did the man say anything before the unfortunate incident."
  • "I don't know. I was reaching fo rmy sword," she says. "I didn't hear much. I think he may have said something like, 'you knew about this?' but I can't be sure."
  • "I see," you say. "You were reaching for your sword, so you did not get a good look at the man. Is that correct?"
  • "It is," Eila says. "As I said, all I remember is him kicking the door in, shouting something, then stabbing my husband."
  • "Thank you," you say. "I appreciate you answering these questions at such a time. One last thing. When was your husband murdered?"
  • Eila glares at you. She gruffly says, "Last night."
  • "Thank you," you say in surprise. "I'll leave you now."

Friosh Karn

  • "Friosh Karn?" you ask.
  • "Aye," he says. "I am. What can I do for you, traveler?"
  • "I am here about the recent murder," you say. "I understand you were a witness."
  • "A witness," he says, laughing. "I was talking to the man when he was killed."
  • "I see," you say, stunned. "Did you see the man who did this?" you ask.
  • "I did," he says. "It was Reingraf of the Morson clan. He lives up on the other side of the hill. Near the roat towards Dahknarg."
  • "Did he say anything before he killed the man you were talking to?"
  • "He accused him of selling tainted food, of killing his family," Friosh says. "Then when the man stammered, he killed him."
  • "I see," you say again. "What did he do after that?"
  • "It was strange," he says. "He was wild-eyed, he had blood in his hair. He picked clean the man's pockets and took everything he had. Including the bread I was going to buy."
  • "When I shouted after him that I needed that bread, that my family was hungry," Friosh continues, "he tossed me back some salted lamb out of his bag."
  • "That's interesting," you say.
  • "It's plain weird I say," Friosh says. "I have work to be done though," he says. "So, please be on your way."
  • "Thank you for your time, Friosh," you say.

Quest Completion

"So you have talked to the people I sent you to?" Grom says. "You were very quick. I appreciate your speed."

"So, now we have a name," he says, "and the description of a feral man. A feral man with manners. Something doesn't add up here. I know I didn't introduce myself. I am Grom Vermach from the city of New Targonor. The noble house I belong to deals with these sorts of incidents on a regular basis."

"What we have no, though, doesn't seem to make sense. It may be dangerous, but I need you to do something else for me if we're going to get to the bottom of this."
