Dialogue

Quest Offering

Markke frowns deeply and says, “That clod Brenlon asked me the other day for techniques on killing scorpions. Can you imagine! Killing them! Slaughtering them by the hundreds!”

“When I explained that the scorpion is a noble creature and that I would not allow him to commit genocide, he laughed at me. Laughed right in my face. I would very much like for he and a crop of scorpions to have some quality time. I need a few things though to get the scorpions under my control... Would you help me?”

Sharia Arnote

  • You say, “So, you’re devoted to exterminating scorpions?”
  • Sharia peers [at] you and asks curiously, “Yes?”
  • “You must not get along well with Markke,” you say.
  • Sharia snorts and says, “For many reasons. Not the least of which is that she’s a dark elf.”
  • “But she does have a morbid fascination with the disgusting things, yes,” she says.
  • You nod and say, “How weird.” You make a face and Sharia seems pleased. “You’ve been studying them, have you?”
  • Sharia says, “Yes, I have. I’ve been hiring adventurers to get me research materials from the ruins where the scorpion tamers are.”
  • “Oh?” you ask. “Have you found anything interesting?”
  • Sharia nods eagerly and says, “I think I almost have it figured out...”
  • “They build a complex apparatus, which I have managed to model,” she says.
  • “But what I am still missing is what they use to make the coating of the apparatus,” she says.
  • “Though I think it is key,” she says, “as it is what attracts the scorpions chemically.”
  • “Interesting...” you say. “Maybe I could help you with that?”
  • Sharia says, “I think I have compiled the whole of their manual, and it’s not in there anywhere! I think it is a secret passed down among tamers.”
  • “Then maybe I should speak with a tamer,” you say.
  • Sharia looks at you and laughs and says, “Yes, if you can speak with a tamer, you could probably figure it out.” She chuckles and shakes her head.

Sarrai

  • You say, “Why, hello there.”
  • Sarrai studies you suspiciously and says, “Hello.”
  • “I understand you are a master of... working with scorpions,” you say.
  • Sarrai nods, gazing at you in an unsettling manner. “I am,” he says. “Now be quick and explain why you are here before I demonstrate my command of them.”
  • You clear your throat nervously and say, “I too appreciate scorpions.”
  • “Oh?” asks Sarrai with a grin. “Do you now?”
  • You nod and say, “And I am here on behalf of one who does even more. The dark elf Markke.”
  • “I do not know her,” he says, “but if she truly appreciates them, she must be a fine woman.”
  • You nod and say, “Oh yes...”
  • “Well,” you continue, “you see, she was hoping you might be able to tell her how to gain the obedience of her scorpions.”
  • “Discipline and patience,” says Sarrai firmly.
  • “Ah, yes, well, she needs something to keep her safe while those do their work,” you say.
  • “We were hoping to know if you knew of any substance that might be pleasing to the scorpions... something she could possibly put on her hands to gain her their sympathy,” you say.
  • Sarrai nods and says, “You need cobra spit.”
  • “Cobra spit?” you ask. “Are you serious?”
  • Sarrai nods and says, “Scorpions hate cobras. They are natural enemies. They will follow that smell no matter how far you take them.”

Quest Completion

Sharia asks, "Cobra spit? Of course! I should have been [sic] known that they'd be drawn by the scent of an enemy..."

Sharia looks thoughtful and says, "Now how to get some of that..."
