DialogueQuest Offering"Do not expect to trouble the Sultan. You can speak with me if you like." Capuchehaie Aryobarz says, "You have probably heard the rumors, but in case you haven't: there is a rebellion among mordebi brewing in Khal. We are trying to forestall this in many ways; ways that might be more effective than a direct assault." "Here in Ahgram, we have a number of peculiar groups that by their very presence bring chaos to our streets We would like to move some of that chaos to the streets of Khal. Determine who is the best pick and convince them to relocate." Capuchehaie AryobarzYou say, "Is it true that the merchant familise of Ahgram have nearly as much power as the Sultan himself?" "Political power?" ask Capuchehaie Aryobarz. "No, he does have a hold over them on that. Now, economic power..." "They rival him there?" you ask. "They surpass him," say Capuchehaie Aryobarz. "Between the Sabiri, the Djash, and the Kordiyeh families, almost all of the wealth on Qalia is controlled." "How exactly did they do that?" you ask. "Well, they have been prosperous for many centuries," say Capuchehaie Aryobarz. "And I am sure that at one time, they walked alongside their caravans trading with every little village just the same as everyone else." "However, all of them represent a number of important pioneering effort," says Capuchehaie Aryobarz, "that put them ahead of the competition." "And they only grey from there," says Capuchehaie Aryobarz. "What sort of effort?" you ask. "Well," says Capuchehaie Aryobarz, "new business practices, unconventional trade routes, discoveries of new goods." "The Sabiri family, for example, have a hand in almost all arms and armor that are bought and purchased in Qalia," say Capuchehaie Aryobarz. "And the were the first to trade with the savage races," says Capuchehaie Aryobarz. "Where others say only danger, the Sabiri looked to why the were so dangerous, and exploited that." "The weapons and armour they procured from them were completely new and different than anything else a Qaliathari could get their hands on," say Capuchehaie Arypbarz, "and the sold them in droves." "I see," you say, "so it's just as easy as thinking a little differently." Capuchehair Aryobarz shrugs and says, "Thinking a little differently... and then choking any possible copetition until you are too pwerful for anyone to even think of competing with you." Roofrunners?"Back away and I may leave you be." "Ah, Roofrunner Firuz?" you say. "Please, a word." Roofrunner Firuz glares and says, "Hush! Quiet! And in a whisper, use that word to explain why I shouldn't kill you." "I am interested in joining the Roofrunners," you say quickly. "You are one of the Nightrain aren't you?" Roofrunner Firuz looks you up and down and in a mildly disgusted tone asks, "You?" "Yes, me," you say. "I think I would be an excellent Roofrunner." "Oh?" asks Roofrunner Firuz. "Can you jump from rooftop to rooftop?" "Can you scale down a wall to slip into a window and make away with the family rubies?" Roofrunner Firuz asks. "Can you greet a shadow as a friend?" Roofrunner Firuz asks. "Calling on that association to vanish without a trace at a moments notice?" "So, the Roofrunners are just thieves, then?" you ask. "The finest thieves in Ahgram," Roofrunner Firuz says. "We go in and out without a trace. The most anyone might note of us is a slight patter of feet on a rooftop as we run away with their heirlooms." "A pattering like night rain," Roofrunner Firuz concludes. You nod and think to yourself, "Thievery is an inconvenience, but 'vanishing without a trace' does not instill much in the way of chaos." You think to yourself that they may not be the best choice. "Wonderous Wonderment?"The Extraordinary Eye mutters and churns his hands in a circle. Small sparks of color and swirls of smoke radiate from around his fingers. You say, "The Extraordinary Eye, what are you doing there?" The Extraordinary Eye looks startled, and the smoke and color suddenly explode around him. "Don't startle me like that!" says The Extraordinary Eye. "Couldn't you see I was working?" You smile apologetically. "My apologies," you say. "I was so awed to be in the presence of a Wondrous Wonderer, I couldn't help but see what you were doing." "You are a Wondrous Wonderer, aren't you?" you ask. "Of course!" says The Extraordinary Eye. "The Extraordinary Eye is the game, magic is the name." he grins in delight at his own joke. You smile and say, "Can you tell me more about your group? I have only heard you're all quite talented." "Why of course!" says The Extraordinary Eye. "We bring a bag of tricks everywhere we go, conjuring up all manner of awe-inspiring wonders and providing cures for what ails you." "Do you have any ailments?" The Extraordinary Eye asks. "I have a fine oil made of king-cobra fat that can cure almost anything." You shake your head and say, "So your magic is mostly entertaining in nature?" "Entertaining?" scoffs The Extraordinary Eye. "To some maybe. To others, it's fearsome! Not that we would ever use our magic to harm someone. We keep close control of what we bring into this world." "But sometimes," The Extraordinary Eye admits with a small smile. "We let the crowd think we don't have quite as much control as we do. It's more fun that way." "You think it is fun to frighten people?" you ask. "Oh they think it's fun to," says The Extraordinary Eye. "We never go too far, and what's life without a good scare once and awhile?" "I see," you say. You think: "These kooky magicians might be exactly what Khal needs. They seem to specialize in making chaos." "The Jackal?"You say, "Cultleader Raj, I stand in awe before you..." Cultleader Raj smiles and says, "As you should, you stand before a member of the Cult of the Jackal." "Harbringers of the end of this world," Cultleader Raj continues. "Yes, yes," you say. "That's why I am here. Telon needs to be purged..." Cultleader Raj grins and says, "I am glad that you agree. Are you interested in the teachings of the Jackal?" You nod eagerly and say, "That is why I am here." Cultleader Raj nods and says, "Good. Then listen as I impart the words of the Jackal to you." "This world must be torn asunder," says Cultleader Raj, "ripped to shreds under the force of the Jackal's judgement." "Only when the world erupts, spewing its matter into the cosmos, will we truly be purged," says Cultleader Raj, shaking his fist. Sweat gleams on his face. You nod, awed, and say, "And that is what the Cult is trying to do?" Cultleader Raj looks annoyed. "Well, we would be working on bringing the world toward a fiery doom, "says Cultleader Raj. "If it weren't for those pesky scorpions." "You mean the Cult of the Scorpion?" you ask. "That's exactly what I mean!" shouts Cultleader Raj. "Always getting our way! Saying that the world needs to 'collapse.' They've got it all wrong." "It is our sacred duty to see that the world ends the correct way," says Cultleader Raj. "Before we can make moves toward that, we must make sure the scorpions do not succeed - or the cleansing will never be complete." You examine Cultleader Raj, and think, "They seem chaotic enough, but they seem caught up in this rivalry. They may not be the best choice." "The Scorpion?" (Cultleader Mika)"Those Jackal fools worship a scavenger when they should worship a beast of truly deadly power and cunning." You say, "You must be the of the great Cult of the Scorpion." "I am," says Cultleader Mika, examining you. "Do you follow the Scorpion? You do not look like you do." "I wish to learn the words of the Scorpion," you say. Cultleader Mika nods briskly. "Of course you do, for only the Scorpion can lead us to salvation." "The Scorpion tells us that this world must fall in on itself, slowly but surely, " says Cultleader Mika. "If it ends too quickly, or too violently, the greater balance will be disturbed," says Cultleader Mika. "So we strive to make the world collapse in on itself," says Cultleader Mika. "Turning brother against brother, nation against nation, and sending the Harbringer to the core of the world where it can eat out the foundation upon which we stand." "And has the Cult of the Scorpion made much movement toward this glorious future?" you ask. Cultleader Mika scowls and says, "No, for heretics stand in our way. The Cult of the Jackal seek to bring this world to a fiery death, which simply cannot be." "At the moment, we are focusing all of our energies on forestalling their efforts," Cultleader Mika says. "So much so that we can do none of our own work," says Cultleader Mika. "Those jackals need to be broken!" You nod and think to yourself, "They could create quite a bit of chaos turning brother on brother in Khal... but they are caught up on these Jackals. Probably not the best choice." The Scorpion? (Cultists)You say, "Cultist Zand, I stand in awe before you..." Cultist Zand smiles and says, "As you should, you stand before a member of the Cult of the Scorpion." "Harbringers of the end of this world," Cultist Zand continues. "Yes, yes," you say. "That's why I am here. Telon needs to be purged..." Cultist Zand grins and says, "I am glad that you agree. Are you interested in the teachings of the Scorpion?" You nod eagerly and say, "That is why I am here." Cultist Zand nods and says, "Good. Then listen as I impact the words of the Scorpion to you." "This world must be torn asunder," says Cultist Zand, "ripped to shreds under the force of the Scorpion's judgment." "Only when the world erupts, spewing its matter into the cosmos, will we truly be purged," says Cultist Zand, shaking his fist. Sweat gleams on his face. You nod, awed, and say, "And that is what the Cult is trying to do?" "Yes, we wish to purge the universe of our world's corruption. And we would have long before, if not for those pesky jackals." "You mean the Cult of the Jackal?" you ask. "That's exactly what I mean!" shouts Cultist Zand. "Always getting (in) our way! Saying that the world needs to 'collapse.' They've got it all wrong." "It is our sacred duty to see that the world ends the correct way," says Cultist Zand. "Before we can make moves toward that, we must make sure the jackal do not succeed - or the cleansing will never be complete." You examine Cultist Zand and think, "They seem chaotic enough, but they seem caught up in this rivalry. They may not be the best choice." Move to Khal? You say, “The Prestidigitator, are your efforts truly appreciated in this city?” “What do you mean?” asks The Prestidigitator curiously. “Well, have people gotten used to your tricks?” you ask. “Don't they know by now they're tricks?” “Well,” says The Prestidigitator, “I have gotten good at performing them stealthily…” “But it seems like people might recognize their flavor,” you say. “I suppose they don't cause quite the reaction that they first did,” says The Prestidigitator, frowning. “And cobra oil sales have plummeted.” “Then why not move on to a new town? you pose. “The Peddlers of Wondrous Wonderment would surely prosper with a fresh crowd.” The Prestidigitator looks thoughtful. “We might, we just might,” says The Prestidigitator. “But ah, Ahgram needs us…” “Why not Khal?” you ask. The Prestidigitator looks at you curiously. “Khal?” asks The Prestidigitator, with a strange tone of voice. You nod and say, “It may be smaller than Ahgram, but it is not a tiny town. There are many customers to be had there. And everything you do will be new.” The Prestidigitator says, “Hmm, I would hate to disappoint our regulars here…” “You can make a triumphant return in six months,” you say. “They will be eager to see you back!” The Prestidigitator nods enthusiastically and says, “I will need to take it up with the others, but this is an excellent suggestion. A change of scenery is exactly what we need.” Quest CompletionMisha examines her long, glossy nails and says, “I was the one who requested this missive be sent down to a capable negotiator. I am glad to see it done.” She smiles, and you note a keen intelligence in her eyes. “The inept magi were an excellent choice. They will have the people of Khal completely caught up in their hoaxes by sundown tomorrow.” She lowers her voice dans says, “I suspect some of my husband's mordebi wives to be involved with the rebellion, but he refuses to turn them away. I think they are a threat to our security.” She glances down at Zhila. “Especially the new one, Zhila. I do not trust her.” ParleysCapuchehaie Aryobarz
