Overview

Game Description

Speak with the Sultan about taking his thirteenth bride from among the Varanthari. Then, speak with the following three horselords about offering their daughters.

• Convince the Sultan
• Negotiate with Horselord Tarqar
• Negotiate with Horselord Mineon
• Negotiate with Horselord Jonqan

Walkthrough

Speak to Sultan Omid Mahdavia-Kia and Convince him that a "Varanthari Wife" is a good idea.

That head to Dark Horse Track and Gossip with Horselord Jonqan about the idea of "Marriage with Ahgram?"

Next, head to Frenouran's Villa and Gossip with Horselord Mineon Frenouran about the idea of "Marriage with Ahgram?"

Finally head to Lomshir and Gossip with Horselord Tarqar about the idea of "Marriage with Ahgram?"

Return to Vizier Davood Khani for your reward.

Dialogue

Quest Offering

The Vizier lets out a bit of a sign and then smiles, saying, "I believe it is time for the Sultan to take a wife from among the Varanthari. It will help alleviate tensions, I believe, between our people. He, however, is not happy with it, and refuses to chose a bride."

"Please, speak with the Sultan about how sensible this is, and then, survey potential brides. I will give you the names of the three Horselords with whom I believe we should seek out alliances."

The Vizier says, "He says that the varanthari women resemble their horses, and refuses to marry a woman bigger than he is." The Vizier just shakes his head.

Sultan Omid Mahdavia-Kia

"Sultan, the Vizier sent me to speak with you," you say.

"Oh?" asks the Sultan. "What about?"

"About your unwillingness to take a varanthari wife," you say.

He groans and shakes his head. "Oh not this again..." he says.

"Don't you see the wisdom in it?" you ask. "Relations between Ahgram and Lomshir are shakey at best. This would help resolve that."

He sighs and says, "Or perhaps they will send someone to kill me..."

"I suppose... that is a risk," you say.

He shakes his head and says, "Listen, I do not wish to marry a varanthari woman. I have qaliathari wives, and mordebi wives, and even a Kojani wife."

"But you know what they all have in common?" he asks. "They are smaller than me!"

"I am sure... that there are some varanthari women who are smaller than you," you say.

"Not many," he says. "And I would fear to sleep beside any other."

"Listen," you say, "I swear to you I will survey the candidates thoroughly. I will make sure that none of them are going to kill you."

"But this is essential," you say. "The horselords wield a great deal of power. You need their favor."

"Very well," he says with a sigh. "I suppose that it is sensible..."

Horselord Jonqan

You say, "Horselord Jonqan, a fine day to you."

He nods to you and says, "Thank you. I will be sure to have one."

You nod and say, "I am here on the business of the Sultan of Ahgram."

"The Sultan of Ahgram?" asks Jonqan. "What business is that?"

You say, "The business of marriage."

"Of marriage?" asks Jonqan with a mildly amused expression.

"Yes," you say, "he is looking to forge a friendship with the varanthari people that is secured by marriage..."

"Is he now," says Jonqan.

"Yes," you say, "so he has sent me to Horselords who he knows to respect and proposla a marriage alliance."

Jonqan says, "And what is he prepared to offer?"

"What do you mean?" you ask. "I assume the dowry would be paid on your part."

"I am not giving my daughter away for free," he says.

Frustrate, you say, "You would have a direct tie to the court of Ahgram!"

"That only goes so far, "Jonqan says, waving his hand dismissively. "If he wants the friendship of the varanthari, it will cost much more than that."

"Bah," you say, "I am sure one of the other Horselords will think about this more reasonably..."

He smiles and says, "Whatever you wish, Mordebi."

Horselord Mineon Frenouran

You say, "Horselord Mineon Frenouran, I come to you from the court of Ahgram."

"With what?" he demands. "A declaration of war?"

"No..." you say. "Quite the opposite. A proposal of marriage."

"Of marriage?" he asks. He scoffs. "I did not know the Sultan was looking for a husband." He laughs heartily.

You frown and say, "He is searching for a thirteenth wife. Do you have any unwed daughters?"

"One," he says. "A headstrong girl."

You ask, "Would you be interested in negotiating her marriage with the Sultan?"

"Oh, believe me," he says, chuckling. "The Sultan could not handle her. She needs a varanthari man to tame her."

You say, "Well... it may still be worth negotiating."

"No," he says. "I have many husbands in mind for her. I need only to decide which."

"You won't consider the Sultan as one?" you ask.

He shakes his head and says, "I have other plans for her. Let your Sultan look for a bride somewhere else."

Horselord Tarqar

You say, "Horselord Tarqar, greetings."

He nods to you with a broad smile and says, "Greetings to you, Mordebi."

"I hear you are a man of much esteem," you say.

"Oh?" he asks with a chuckle." Whose esteem?"

"Why, the court of Ahgram," you say.

"The court of Ahgram?" he asks curiously.

You nod and say, "In fact, they sent me to see if you would be willing to marry any of your daughters to the Sultan."

He looks a little stunned. "One of my daughters... to the Sultan?" he asks.

You nod and say, "They wish to extend an offer of friendship to the varanthari people - one secured by marriage."

Horselord Jarqar looks thoughtful and says, "The Sultan has many wives."

"Yes," you say. "Twelve, in fact."

He grunts and says, "He truly has a herd... He must be a strong man."

You chuckle and say, "Perhaps..."

"Well," says Horselord Tarqar, frowning, "I married my oldest daughter three years ago... and my youngest a year ago. My middle daughter is still unwed."

"Is there any... reason?" you ask.

He frowns and says, "She is a little on the small side. We varanthari like our women big, and strong. They birth strong sons."

"But among the qaliathari," you say, "small is considered beautiful. I think that will please the Sultan."

"Very good then!" he says. "I will agree."

Quest Completion

The Vizier smiles and says, "Horselord Tarqar has ever been a reasonable man. I am happy to draw up a contract with him. I hear his daughter is at least small for one of her kind as well."

[Continue]

The Vizier promptly produces documents and begins to scribble away. He glances up at you and says, "Thank you once again for the role you played in this. I now must draw up these contracts quickly - before the Sultan changes his mind."
