Dialogue

Quest Offering

You say, "Hail, Lord Marcus Renton."

"As I said, my knowledge of seals and sigils for different noble houses has fallen in the last few years," Lord Renton says. "However, I do know somewhere you can find out."

"A couple houses in New Targonor thrive on gossip and rumors," Lord Renton continues, "but there is one in particular that thrives on darker knowledge. You should seek out those in House Vermach. They are usually willing to sell out a partner just to see the chaos it causes."

Rache Weaver

  • "Regent Weaver," you say, "I was directed to you by someone. I'm looking for some information."
  • "What makes you think I would have that information?" he asks, with a smirk.
  • "Lord Marcus Renton led me to believe you would know something of what I seek," you say. "A house that 'thrives on darker knowledge' I believe he said."
  • "Well, that moniker isn't incorrect," Rache answers, smiling. "But why would I just give you free information?"
  • "He had an answer for that too," you say. "It was something like, 'They are usually willing to sell out a partner just to see the chaos it causes,' if I remember correctly."
  • "Now that's an outright lie," the Regent says, scowling. "We have neve sold out an associate just for entertainment. What sort of information do you seek that would cause Renton to mention me?"
  • "I am following a plot of great proportions," you say, "or so it would appear." You hand him the scrap with the seal.
  • Rache Weaver looks over the seal on the paper, rubbing his chin in thought.
  • "Do you know anything about that?" you ask.
  • "I do know something," he says, coldly. "You aren't going to like the answer, though. I would not just give that kind of information freely."
  • "Well I have lost the trail and it ends with you currently," you say. "What can you give me?"
  • Regent Weaver thinks for a moment, then sighs heavily. "Go see what Jan Pentago has to say."
  • "Thank you, Regent. I appreciate it."

Jan Pentago

  • "Jan Pentago," you say, "I have some questions for you."
  • "I am in the middle of some important business," he says, "please leave me be, little one."
  • "Does your business partner know of your illicit dealings in Three Rivers, or Renton Keep? Maybe in Veskal's Exchange?"
  • Jan looks at you sternly. "What illicit dealings?"
  • "The ones attributed to this house," you say, holding out the scrap of paper. He takes it and looks it over.
  • "I see," he says, nodding solemnly. "I assume that whatever investigation you are on, involving these people, has led you here."
  • "That's correct," you say. "You stand at road's end."
  • "Not quite, my friend," he says. "I know this may be hard to believe, but you have been misled."
  • "I would find that hard to believe coming from you," you say. "Why would I trust you?"
  • "Because this isn't a symbol of New Horizons Trading Group," he says, pointing to a signet ring. "Though it looks like an old seal of ours, this is a symbol of something far older and more dangerous."
  • "Which would be?" you ask.
  • "A group of necromancers and nobles who have sided with the undead forces from Cartheon," he says. "The Onyx Hand, who wish to see Thestra return to Cartheon control."
  • In your silence he continues, "You can see why I haven't mentioned this to anyone. It implicates quite a few very influential individuals."
  • "I have been studying this group for some time now," Jan says. "Since someone else brought me one of their symbols actually, which does bear a striking resemblance to our original seal."
  • "What have you discovered?" you ask. "What have you done to stop these plots?"
  • "I have not been able to amass enough evidence to get them arrested," Jan says. "They are too big, too powerful, to deal with inside the law. The word-barons of House Thistle have made certain of that."
  • "However, an independant agent could act outside the law," Jan says. "If you want to see your original orders through to the end, seek out Jenia Remniol. Of everyone in New Targonor, she has the most power in the group, and appears to be leading multiple plots at once."
  • "What I have discovered," Jan concludes, "is that three things are about to happen. The circle plans to meet in the park today to discuss plans, my associates have spotted an elven assassin within the city, and another shipment of the cursed bread is leaving soon."
  • "A weapon you have against her though," he says. "She is a noble of House Remniol. By upbringing she is prone to talking to much and desperate to be regarded well by all. You may be able to get her to say too much."

Quest Completion

"And so you finally come to me," Jenia says. "The pieces put together, the puzzle finished. I would hope, by now, you would have realized that you cannot stop me."

"Things have come to a head now," she continues. "All of my plots are coming to fruitition and I have ensured there will be no time to stop them all. There is just too much to do. The circle meets soon, the bread will be shipped out on time, and the assassination will proceed without fail."
