Dialogue

Karie Thurman

"Our number of traveling ambassadors is getting smaller by the day. I could use some help, if you're up to it."

[What sort of help do you need?]

"The roads to Veskal's Exchange and Leth Nurae are getting more dangerous as the days go on," Karie says.

"You need a delivery made there? you ask. "There are couriers around who can do something like that."

"It's not so much a normal delivery," she says. "It involves taking an ambassadorial message to Leth Nurae."

"What sort of message do you need to send?" you ask.

"Leth Nurae," she says quietly, "is preparing an expedition to retake old land."

"What does that have to do with our kingdom, though?" you ask.

"Technically, New Targonor is in territory they once held," she says. "We wish to ensure they do not think to take back this land."

"What will this message say?" you ask.

"We have two different ones we can send," she says. "I have orders that either will be acceptable, as they will both server our purposes."

"What are they?" you ask.

"The first will direct the expedition to help the massing dwarven army," she says. "We wish to take back Old Targonor."

"Set out on the offensive against the undead invasion," you say, nodding your head.

"Exactly," she says. "With Targonor back, we well be able to move the bulk of our forces there and hold a stronger port."

"Where would the other message direct the expedition?" you ask.

She looks at you carefully. "Bordinar's Cleft."

You nod gravely at her words. "I see."

Quest Offering

"The elves of Leth Nurae are gathering a force, as I said, to reclaim old lands," Karie says. "We wish to ensure that they do not come after us. I'll need you to deliver a report and a message to Chancellor Onios of the Court of the Eternal Rose with a new destination for their army - Bordinar's Cleft."

"There are a few special instructions to follow, but I don't have time to give them. Speak to the Directory of Intelligence at the top of the stairs leading into the city. I'll mark your map for that."

Remy Graves

"I had a feeling it would be you, Demila," Remy says. "I expect you're here on Karie's request."

"I am," you say. "I am to deliver a report to Leth Nurae about redirecting their forces to Bordinar's Cleft."

"Alright," she says, "listen carefully. Neither we nor the elves have faced the dwarves in open warfare in recorded history."

"However," Remy continues, "I've had a spy in Bordinar's Cleft for the last three months in case we would need information about their army."

"That's impressive forethought," you say, "or this has been in the works for a while."

"Forethought," she says. "That's all. Now the spy is ready to meet whoever I send. He has a report about the dwarves most common fighting styles and more uncommon tactics."

"With that report, you'll be able to deliver a way to the elves, but they still need the will. To find my agent, go under the Bloodaxe Bridge in Three Rivers. If you say windstep, he should come out. Remember that, windstep."

"Windstep," you say. "Once I speak that, he'll come out of the shadows?"

"That's right, but you may still have to convince him of your mission," Remy says. "After that, the motivation is in Renton Keep."

"There's a dwarf there by the name of Rulgand Thunderaxe," Remy continues. "He's an ex-councilor and knows what sorts of magical treasures are in their vault in Bordinar's Cleft."

"He won't be happy to speak about that," you say.

"No, he won't," Remy says. "In addition to the report, my agent will have in Infusion of Truth for you. Mix it with some ale from Renton Keep. He loves that ale and will be more apt to believe he merely got drunk and spilled the secrets."

"Why Renton's ale?" you ask. "Is there something special about it?"

"It's amazingly strong ale," she says, "since it was brewed by Rulgand himself. On that subject, he should be in the cellar in Renton Keep."

"So after I gather the report and the dwarf's information," you say, "where should I deliver them?"

"You'll see Chancellor Onios in Leth Nurae," Remy says, "but you may need permission to see even him. Now, go quickly. My agent won't wait too long."

Pelter Lightstep

"What do you want?"

"Who are you, and what are you doing here?" Pelter asks.

"I was sent by Remy to retrieve a report from you," you say.

"I've never heard of anyone named Remy," Pelter says. "I suggest you leave now."

"Look," you say, "I knew the passcode alright. How do you think I got it?"

"I'm sure that's a pretty common phrase where you come from," Pelter says.

"So, Remy Graves, Directory of Intelligence in New Targonor sends me to pick up a report, and gives me a passcode, but you don't beleive me?" you sak.

"That's about where we stand," he says.

"So the fact that I know the contents of that report and that you hav been station in Bordinar's Cleft for the last three months means nothing."

"Now we're getting somewhere," Pelter says. "Where are expecting to got from here?"

"I have planes to speak to a dwarf in Renton Keep," you say. "Is that the right answer?"

"Yeah yeah," he says. "You got me convinced. Here, I have the report and the Infusion of Truth."

"Where do I use this infusion?" you ask.

"It is brewed for a dwarf, so it should be enough, even if it doesn't look like it," Pelter says. "Just add it to some ale and give it Relugand. Then ask any question you desire the answer to. It works miraculously fast."

"Alright," you say. "Thanks."

Rulgand Thunderaxe

"So, how do you feel Rulgand?" you sak.

"Wow," he says, shaking his head. "I don't remember brewing it that strong. That's some pretty good stuff."

"I here you were a councilor in Bordinar's Cleft before coming here," you say.

"Aye, I was. I retired though, getting a little old for the squabbling over there," Rulgand says. "I wanted to get back to my love."

"Brewing beer and ale?" you ask.

"That's the one," he says, smiling warmly.

"So, that vault you guys have over there, I hear it has some pretty rare treasures," you say.

"Rare? Bah," he says. "Even the most common thing in there is worth a king's crown in trade," he says. "We don't even know what it all does."

"Really?" you ask, intrigued. "You've got some magical treasures in there then?"

"Magical doesn't even begin to describe it," he says. "I speak a mess of languages, and there were books in there even I couldn't understand."

"That's very interesting," you say. "How did you mass all of it?"

"We brought some back from Dargun's Tomb, but we've been hoarding for longer than the elves have been staring at themselves in mirrors." "Then you'd say there were items in there from before the Cataclysm?" you ask.

"Aye," he says, wide-eyed.

"That you," you say, "for the ale and the conversation, but I do have to be going."

Tanalion Atilmo

"Mr. Atilmo," you say, "may I speak with you a moment?"

"It it is only a moment," he says without meeting your gaze.

"I have a message from the King of Targonor," you say.

"Ah," he says, "we have been expecting such a report. I can take that from you."

"Actually," you say, "I was told to deliver it directly to Chancellor Onios, with all due respect."

Tanalion looks up. "Oh really," he says.

"Yes, this is quite sensitive data that I would rather personally see in the hands of the Chancellor."

"You are quite the ungrateful upstart aren't you," he says.

"I understand you're offended," you say, "but I have traveled a long way to deliver this report."

"Do you really think me incapable, someone who has risen to Palace Seneshal, of delivering a simple report?"

"It is not all in the report," you say. "Some of it is information only I know. If you wish to inform the Chancellor you couldn't be bothered to lead me to him, I imagine he'll have to understand."

"Alright, fine," he says, "Go see him. Don't be surprised though if he just spurns you."

"Thank you, Mr. Atilmo," you say, nodding your head.

Chancellor Onios

"Chancellor Onios," you say, bowing your head, "I have brought a message from the King of Targonor."

"I see," he says. "Do you have an appointment? You should go see the Seneshal before approaching me."

"I have seen Tanalion Atilmo," you say. "He sent me in here to speak with you. He said it would be alright."

"Excuse me?" he says. "Tanalion just sent you in here?"

"He did, Chancellor," you say. "I wished to speak to you personally about this matter, which is sensitive, but he couldn't be bothered to show me in."

"I've had enough problems with Atilmo," he says. "I'll be speaking to him later. What did you need?"

"I have brought a message from the King, as I said, about the marshalling of your forces."

"Ah," he says. "I have been expecting such a message. What do you have for me?"

"The King would like to request your forces to march on Bordinar's Cleft, your lordship," you say. "In support of that request I have brought this report from one of our spies."

Chancellor Onios takes the report. "And what does this have to say?"

"It details the more uncommon elements of the dwarven war machine and ways to exploit it," you say.

"That is powerful knowledge," he says, "but we must have more than that. We need a reason, beyond the fact that they smell."

"I have procured that too," you say. "I understand that your scholars and the Queen are quite interested in ancient magical treasures."

"That is true," he says, suspiciously. "What are you saying?"

"I have it on good authority that the vault in Bordinar's Cleft," you say, "contains many ancient and incomprehensible artifacts of the arcane. Some of them old enough to predate the Cataclysm."

"Now that is interesting," he says. "Do you have any details?"

"Not at this time," you say, "but I can tell you where to get them."

"I will take this information to the Queen," he says, smirking.

Quest Completion

"This is a very interesting proposal from the King Targonor," the Chancellor says. "I wouldn't have expected such a bold initiative from him."

[Continue]

"I will take this proposal to and your findings to the Queen when she is ready to hear them. I, and we of Leth Nurae, thank you for the time you've put in."

Chancellor Onios continues, "For all the work you have already done, I can offer this small token of appreciation."
