Walkthrough
Follow the ramp down. You will encounter two miners who will NOT parley with you. Ignore them and continue further down the ramp. You'll encounter more miners who will parley with you for this quest further along the ramp and at the bottom. Return to Krellan Goldenhand for your reward.
The parleys actually go not by name, but in order of NPC spoken to, and they all use the same deck.

Quest Offering
Krellan says, "I wonder what the miners all think about this? From what you've described, it sounds like quite a bit of it was uncovered before the Foreman put a stop to it, so they must have wanted it out... Why don't you go ask a few of them what they think about this? And what they know."
Miner #1
- You say, "Greetings to you, Miner <Name>. Think you could put that pick down for a second and speak with me?"
- Miner <Name>wipes his brow and says, "Gladly stranger, though I don't know that I should for too long."
- "The Foreman works you hard, does he?" you ask.
- Miner <Name> shrugs. "It's mostly Boss Thunderaxe," he explains. "She rides him hard, so he rides us hard."
- "I hear you can't even stop for the occasional excavation project," you say.
- Miner <Name> looks at you warily. "You're meaning the statue, aren't you," he says.
- "I do," you say, "and I am curious what you think about that."
- Miner <Name> glances around and then leans toward you, bushy eyebrows pressed together. "Between you and me, I think even Foreman Rille wouldn't have us chippin' away at it if it weren't for the boss," he says.
- "We kept it a secret," says Miner <Name>, jerking his head back, "cut it out of the stone when no one was looking. I know that Rille found out about it before the Boss, but he didn't say anything."
- Miner <Name> says, "But when she found out about it, you could hear her shoutin' at him all through these caverns... She put a stop to it right here."
- "So everyone but her wanted it done?" you ask.
- "Yeah," says Miner <Name>, "she says we were bein' careless - that this ore was too important for us to stop."
- "I gues what she says is true," says Miner <Name>, "though I think we could've at least afforded to put a couple of men on it..."
Miner #2
- "I almost became Bloodsworn, but my mother talked me into an honest mining job where I could work with my cousins."
- You nod to Miner <Name>. "Think we can talk, Miner <Name>?" you ask.
- Miner <Name> studies you, shrugs, and says, "Why not? Could use the break."
- "You know anything about the statue that was unearthed?" you ask.
- "Only that folk thinks it's probably of Alurad," says Miner <Name>, "and that the Boss says we aren't to touch it."
- "So were you one of the excavators?" you ask.
- "Me? No, I never touched it," says Miner <Name>, shaking his head furiously. "I stayed to mine ore line I was told."
- "You weren't drawn to it like some of the others seem to be?" you ask.
- Miner <Name> shrugs. "We don't know for sure that it's him," says Miner Stonecleaver. "And this ore is important..."
- "Without it, how're we going to keep arming ourselves?" he asks. "How're we going to keep up the fight?"
- "We dwarves need this ore to stay strong," he says. "Alurad would understand."
- "Would Alurad understand that you're filling the Thunderaxes' coffers in the meanwhile?" you ask. "Boss Thundraxe seems to be the one most intent on you sticking to your digging."
- Miner <Name> scowls at you. "That t'aint what this is about..." he says.
- "Then what is it?" you ask.
- "The safety of the Cleft! And our people!" Miner <Name> bellows.
Miner #3
- Miner <Name> says, "Boss Thunderaxe sure do pay well, but blind me if I don't think they need to sharpen some axes back in the city and get some of the richer mines back!"
- "I'd like to know your thoughts on a subject, Miner <Name>," you say.
- "Oh?" asks Miner <Name>, chest heaving. "What... is it?"
- "Do you know about the statue being dug up in there?" you ask.
- "You mean the statue of Alurad?" asks Miner <Name>. "Sure." He spits and scowls.
- "Why the anger?" you ask.
- "Cause Boss Thunderaxe won't let us finish cutting it out," he says with a bit of a growl. "Says we need to keep workin' at the ore."
- "But we be offending Alurad with this insult," says Miner <Name>.
- "Why do you think that?" you ask.
- "Seen [sic] those monsters down there keeping some of our men hostage? The living rock?" he asks, jabbing his finger in their direction.
- "Some of us, most of us, think they be Alurad's punishment," he says. "They showed up not long after we stopped at excavatin' it."
- "And they keep comin'," he says.
- "You don't think that maybe just opened up some passage to them?" you ask.
- "We didn't hit anything like it," says Miner <Name> with a shrug. "And Alurad's got every reason to be mad at us."
- "Sounds like it should be Boss Thunderaxe he should be upset with," you say.
- "You're right, he should," says Miner <Name>, "but I don't think it bothers her one bit."
Quest Completion
Krellan says, in a slightly worried tone, "So they think all of this has upset Alurad?"
[Continue]
"If that's the case," says Krellan, "then this situation needs to change, immediately. We need Alurad on our side in these trying times."
