Game Description

  • Raki People Assessed

Speak with 4 Raki within the Chamber of Tomes regarding issues of world travel and politics

Walkthrough

There are several Raki in the room. Only 3 of them (Whent, Nann and Jaok) will actually parley with you for this quest. (I think it's a bug).

It doesn't matter who you talk to, or in what order. You can even talk to the same NPC twice in a row (or three times). The parley dialogue goes according to the order you speak to them in, but the Deck of cards each NPC plays depends on the NPC, and is NOT effected by the type of parley. So mix and match how you like them!

Dialogue

Quest Offering

Elder Sal bites her lip. "<playername>," she says, "I think it's about time we consulted the rest of our people. We may be given the responsibility to act as the head of our race, but we have no desire to rule them - not like the wood elves, or the humans." "Venture out and speak with other raki about their feelings on what we have discovered," says Sal. "Try not to be too specific, as we do not know where the wood elves might have ears. Return to me after you've spoken with four of our people."

  • "NPC 1," you say, "do you have a moment to talk politics?"
  • "Politics?" asks NPC 1 curiously. "What sort of politics are you wanted to talk about?"
  • "Namely whether our people should have a political voice," you say.
  • "Well," says NPC 1, "we have our Elders. They see to our matters."
  • "What about matters of the city though? And of the whole world?" you ask.
  • NPC 1 peers at you as if something is growing out of your forehead. "You mean actually have a seat on the council?" asks NPC 1.
  • "That's exactly what I mean!" you say. "Imagine it, a raki, or two, or three, having a say in decisions that currently only wood elves make - decisions that affect us too."
  • "Well," says NPC 1, "wouldn't that seem a tad bit ungrateful? After all they've done for us..."
  • "I don't think so," you say. "We have given them much in return."
  • "Why," you say, "they consider us a valuable asset. So valuable that I know for certain they have taken any number of drastic measures to ensure we remain with them."
  • "Oh?" asks NPC 1. "What sort of measures are those?"
  • "I... cannot say," you say. "You'll just have to believe me."
  • NPC 1 shrugs, saying, "I'm not sure that I do, but, no matter, the wood elves never will let us on their council anyway."
  • "I think you may be surprised," you say.
  • "I welcome the surprise!" says NPC 1. "I can't say it wouldn't be nice to have more of a say in what goes on... It just doesn't seem realistic to think we will."

NPC 2 Image:InterviewIcon2.jpg Interview

  • "NPC 2, do you think all Raki feel strongly indebted to the wood elves?" you ask.
  • "Well," says NPC 2, "we were on the verge of being wiped out."
  • "We had been driven from our world, then from our ship, and onto this new land," NPC 2 continues.
  • "We had no claim to anything here," says NPC 2," and yet the wood elves gave us a place - a claim."
  • "Do you really think we have a claim though?" you asks. "We've only ever been allowed to exist on their land, under their terms."
  • "Yet over the years, we have done them a great number of services," you add.
  • "That is true," says NPC 2, mulling over your words. "They may not see the value of the written word, but they certainly benefit from the communications our scribes send to the other cities for them."
  • "And we have taught them a great deal about magic," says NPC 2, "and helped them organized their own magic users more efficiently."
  • "And don't forget the bond," you say. "We helped form the bond that keep the Ulvari out of this very forest."
  • "All of this is very persuasive," says NPC 2. "You know, I do think we have worked off our debt."
  • "We should have some claim over this forest!" says NPC 2, then immediately looks uncomfortable. "Even though it has always belonged to them..."
  • "Not always," you add. "They admit that they came to it at some point in the not so ancient past. Why, our people even have long back records confirming it in our tomes."
  • "Lands change hands," you say. "Control changes hand to those who have a current claim on it. Our people have such a claim."
  • "Why," says NPC 2," so we do! We should stake it!"
  • "We mean to," you say with a smile.

NPC 3 Image:InterviewIcon2.jpg Interview

  • "Do you ever think much about our home world?" you ask.
  • "You mean, where we Raki fled from?" asks NPC 3.
  • You nod. "That's exactly where I mean," you say. "Do you wonder what happened to it?"
  • "Yes, I have wondered," says NPC 3. "I supposed I put it out of my mind because it's a question I can't expect to answer."
  • "I don't like questions I can't answer," says NPC 3, making a face.
  • "I can understand," you say, "but surely your mind must contemplate it? As any capable mind would feel compelled to..."
  • "Of course," says NPC 3, "I do ponder it on occasion, despite my efforts..."
  • "Would you ever go back?" you ask. "Given the chance."
  • "Why, I don't know..." says NPC 3.
  • "I don't think I would want to leave Telon permanently," says NPC 3, "I have too much of a life here."
  • "But to know what fate ultimately befell it! Isn't that just the ultimate answer?" you ask.
  • "Yes! Very much so!" says NPC 3. "The ultimate answer to the ultimate question. I would certainly want to answer it."
  • "Or have others among us study it and bring back the answer," adds NPC 3 a little uncertainly.

NPC 4 Image:GossipIcon2.jpg Gossip

  • "NPC 4," you say, "if our people were given the chance to return to our home world, do you think we should do it?"
  • "That's quite a question, with no easy answer..." says NPC 4. "I think it would depend on the state it was in."
  • "It is not as though we have anything to flee from here," says NPC 4, "and our bond with the wood elves is essential to their battle with the Ulvari. And we have an old grudge with the Ulvari."
  • "Consider this," you say, "the wood elves give us no say in their government."
  • "Our keeping of records and scribing of letters is scorned by them," you say, "yet they have us prepare communications for them all the time."
  • "They, in many ways, use us, and hold over our heads that they have that power over us," you add.
  • "Yes," says NPC 4, "I suppose that all of that is true. What of it?"
  • "Well," you say, "if we had another option, it might make our conditions here a little more favorable."
  • "If we could make the wood elves see that our situation is not a fair one," you continue, "and that we have somewhere else we could go, it might help persuade them."
  • "So make the wood elves agree to give us more power in exchange for us remaining?" asks NPC 4.
  • "Well, yes," you say, "but all we're asking for is a say. That seems completely reasonable."
  • "It is," says NPC 4, "though a little underhanded..."
  • "It is," you say, "and there is no saying our people would ever actually do that. It may only be a bluff. But they may or may not call that bluff."
  • "Even if we would," says NPC 4, "there's not currently any way that we could, so I suppose the point is moot."
  • "Don't assume that so quickly," you say, tapping your nose with a wink.
  • "What?" asks NPC 4. "We've found a way back?"
  • "Not necessarily," you say, "but maybe. Just maybe."
  • "Well!" says NPC 4. "I never would have imagined it possible... The actual thought of it does change things. It would be nice to have our own world back."

Quest Completion

Elder Sal nods slowly. "So it seems that, in general, we are drawing this in a direction the people approve of," says Sal. She lets out a heavy sigh of relief. "Good. That eases my mind."

"I do hope they don't call that bluff," says Elder Sal. "I hope it doesn't come down to that, because I have no desire to abandon them to this fate. If they cannot see past their own self importance and acknowledge that we have a critical role here, though... maybe they chose the fate for themselves."
