Overview

Expression is the representation of the four ways you can “influence” NPCs. The four expression types are Demand Image:DemandIcon.jpg, Reason Image:ReasonIcon.jpg, Inspire Image:InspireIcon.jpg and Flattery Image:FlatterIcon.jpg. During a parley, expression is represented by small colored dots on the game board which you can spend using statement cards.

Player Expression

Player starting expressions are determined by their race and class. For more information see Starting Cards: Race and Class Expression Types.

NPC Expression

The expressions used by Civic Diplomacy NPCs are generally determined by their race and station. The following tables can be an initial guide to deck design for parleying NPCs with the caveat that individual NPC decks can vary greatly.

NPC Race Expression

Demand Races Reason Races Inspire Races Flattery Races
Dwarf
Mordebi Human
Orc
Varanthari
Vulmane
Wood Elf
Gnome
Goblin
High Elf
Kojani Human

NPC Station Expression

Demand Stations Reason Stations Inspire Stations Flattery Stations
Domestic

Outsider

Thus, an Orc Clergy would be expected to have a deck comprised primarily of Demand and Inspire.

Conversation Expression

Some types of conversations block one expression during parleying. Interview does not block any expressions.
