Dialogue
Quest Offering
Mina says, "Sources tell me that after Khal, Zhila passed through Naemsog Bunker. Perhaps there is more to this story to be found among the gnomes there. Other than proximity, they have no reason to favor Khal over Ahgram."
"Pursue this mystery. Visit Naemsog Bunker and speak with Ariff Gifri, a man I know I can trust there, and Low Constable Tiprey, who is in charge. Be sure to ask Ariff about the jackal tattoo. I think he may be able to tell you something about it."
Ariff Gifri
- You say, "Ariff Gifri, Mina Zeya sent me to speak with you."
- You notice that he quickly scans your person and then asks, "Oh?"
- You nod and say, "He has some concerns about Zhila Mahdavi-kia, the most recent bride of Ahgram's illustrious Sultan."
- Ariff Gifri nods and asks, "What's he concerned about?"
- "He's not certain that the Sultan is safe with her in his home," you say. "She was seen walking with a man who did not seem quite savory."
- "He had a jackal tattoo on his neck," you say. "Mina said you might know something of that."
- "A jackal?" Asks Ariff, looking surprised. "Not the Cult of the Jackal?"
- "Who is the Cult of the Jackal?" you ask.
- "Why , only a group of foul mages bent on bringing the world to ruin!" he says. "If Zhila was seen with one of them, then yes, there is no trusting her."
- "They spoke about trade," you say. "About overland trade, discussing Ahgram's weakness and its dependence on Khal."
- Ariff Gifri nods and says, "As a merchant, I'm sensitive to those things, and yes, i get almost no goods by caravan anymore. They all come up by the river."
- "So it's a very real concern, then," you say.
- Ariff Gifri nods and says, "Very real. If the Cult of the jackal are somehow connected to that... we may have a bleak future approaching soon. their intent is to bring the world to ruin by turning us against one another and collapsing our governments."
- "It seems as though they have movements in place to begin that," he says.
Low Constable Tiprey
- You say, "Greetings, Low Constable Tiprey Octunoc, I am Chantillary."
- "Greetings!" says Low Constable tiprey Octunoc, nodding to you. "How can I help you?"
- "You are part of the Upside Alliance, aren't you?" you ask.
- Low Constable Tiprey Octunoc nods and says, "A proud part, though little it may be."
- "So you are in close contact with Khal?" you ask.
- Low Constable Tiprey Octunoc nods and says, "Almost closer than Mekalia. They come by here frequently to check on our fortifications."
- "You ask, "Have you heard anything about Qalia's current trade situation?"
- "How do you mean?" Asks Low Constable Tiprey Octunoc, furrowing his brow.
- "About the decrease in overland trade," you say, "from all the banditry."
- "Ah," says Low Constable Tiprey Octunoc, almost seeming to go a bit pale. "Yes, about that... I have heard them talk about... some of that."
- "Oh," you ask. "In what context?"
- "They were gloating about the increase in water trade," he says. "And I told them, 'Well, that's all well and good, but without land trade, many people will not get what they need.'"
- "They stopped gloating for a moment and assured me that we would always be well stocked here," he says. "They would see to it."
- "The odd thing was what followed. To that I said 'Why should we worry about ourselves? We're here on the river. It's the others I worry about.' then they got an oddly humored look in their eye and just told me that everything would be find." He snorts. "Do you know what it means to be placated?"
- You nod and say, "I do, yes."
- "Well, I don't like to be placated," he says. "I like people to be upfront and honest with me, and those two certainly were not. It didn't sit well. Not well at all."
- You say, "Zhila Mahdavi-Kia, the new wife of the Sultan, may have some connections to this Cult. She is originally from Khal."
- He frowns and says, "Ties between a wife of the Sultan... a vile cult trying to steal out constables... suspicious behavior from Khal... all simultaneous with a decrease in trade. This stinks of something rotten."
Quest Completion
The Low Constable says, "Overland trade is important to the whole continent. We gnomes want to see it open and free as much as anyone else."
He frowns and says, "If Jhal has anything to do with this apparent growing lack of it, trust me, Mekalia will not be happy."
If Khal truly wanted to bring an end [to] overland trade, what would they need to do?" you ask.
Tiprey's eyes widen and he says, "The Beacons."
