Dialogue

Bahdor Adesh

  • You say, "Bahdor Adesh, how's business?"
  • Bahdor Adesh looks at you humorlessly and says, "How's business? Difficult."
  • "Lots of banditry?" you ask.
  • Bahdor Adesh nods and says, "And it only gets worse. I can never trust the caravans. People try to make special orders and I tell them: what I have is what I have."
  • "Tomorrow I may have more," Bahdor Adesh says, "but I cannot say for certain."
  • "Has it been particularly bad lately then?" you ask.
  • Bahdor Adesh nods and says, "It has spiked considerably."
  • "have any of the attacks been out of the ordinary?" you ask.
  • "What do you mean?" asks bahdor Adesh.
  • "Different than your usual bandits," you say.
  • Bahdor Adesh looks thoughtful and then nods gravely. "A friend of mine... it was terrible," Bahdor Aresh's voice is flooded with emotion. "He..."

"Bandits don't always kill," says Bahdor Aresh, breathing in deeply and restarting, "and if they do, it is chaotic and messy. this is what we have come to expect."

  • And isn't it odd to see a friend slain in a way that looks practiced and methodical is so much worse?" asks Bahdor Adesh.
  • "So the person who killed him was a practiced killer?" you ask.
  • Bahdor Adesh nods and says, "They were good at what they did, and killings of these type seem to be drawing closer to the beacons every day."

Namog Nanaba

  • You ask, "Namog Nanaba, may I have a few words for you?"
  • Namog Nanaba nods and says, "Certainly. what can I help you with?"
  • "I am concerned that the beacons may be in some kind of danger," you say.
  • "Danger? asks Namog Nanaba, startled. "You've seen it too, then?"
  • You say, "No I haven't. I'm only here on the hunch of low Constable Tiprey."
  • Tiprey!" says Namog Nanaba. "A fine gnome. What's this hunch of his?"
  • "That any threat to overland trade would fall on the Beacons," you say, "as they are the core to the interior of Qalia, especially any trade to Ahgram."
  • "As overland travel has seemed to become a target of banditry and general disruption," you say, "Yhe beacons seemed a next obvious choice."
  • Namog Nanaba nods eagerly and says, "Right, right! They are the backbone of overland trade! Of course!"
  • "Can I ask you what your feeling on all this was?" you ask.
  • "Oh, yes, of course," he says. "I pay close attention to this Beacon, and to those who pass through it."
  • "I have noticed a number of suspicious characters," he says, "lurking closer than they should. And our selection of guards keeps shifting."
  • "I tried to tell Hafeez, but he was too busy to pay me any mind," says namog nanaba, frowning. "You seem persuasive. Perhaps you could talk to him?"
  • You nod and say, "I will be speaking with him next."
  • "Good!" he says. "Let him know that Namog Nanaba says there is something afoot here at the Beacon."

Hafeez al'Azzimat

You say, "Hafeez al'Azzimat, i must speak to you right away."

  • "Oh?" asks Hafeez al'Azzimat. "And what do you need of me that is so urgent?"
  • "Namog Nanaba and I both believe that this tower may soon come under attack," you say. "Namog has seen suspicious characters around."
  • "And I believe that those seeking to bring a halt to overland trade would target this Beacon, as it serves as a waypoint, as well as a point of order, in central Qalia."
  • "I know," says Hafeez. "I have known we were coming under attack for some time."
  • "Really?" you ask. "Then why isn't it common knowledge?"
  • "Because causeing a panic would not be good for this place." he says. "It would be abandoned in a day's time."
  • "But you must be doing something about it," you say.
  • "Oh, I am," he says. "I have been preparing the soldiers, and searching constantly for their spies."
  • "I know it will be Lomshir barbarians who flood into this Beacon, "he says, "but what i don't know is when - and why. i suspect that they are in the pay of someone with ulterior motives."
  • You have brought me a motive," he says, "though I am still not sure who exactly would hire them to do it."
  • "Khal appears to be connected somehow," you say. "There are many parties that seem to be involved. Zhila Mahdavi-Kia, the Cult of the Scorpion... I have been trying to get to the bottom of this mystery."
  • He nods and says, "We need that spy to be sure, though."
  • "Then perhaps we should try to find them," you say.

Quest Offering

  • Low Constable Tiprey [] and says, "Why, they could destroy the beacons. Without them, there would be chaos in the interior of Qalia, and nowhere for a weary merchant to rest." He looks thoughtful. "They couldn't possibly go that far, though, could they?" He lets out a frustrated snort. "We need to be sure."
  • "Go to the beacon of Hafeez Al'Azzimat. There is a gnome there who would doubtless have noticed anything suspicious, Namog Nanaba. Also, you should speak to the merchants about trade."

Quest Completion

  • Hafeez nods and says, "I don't know if you know how important these beacons are. We serve as a backbone for more than just overland trade."
  • "They are a link, both symbolic and useful, between Ahgram and Khal," he says. "Seatroying them would open the grounds between them for war."
  • "We cannot allow the Beacons to fall," he says. "We cannot."
